The 10 best toilets in the world to spend a penny

When it comes to the Premier Loos League, it seems Wembley can hold its own, making it onto a list of the top 10 public toilets in the world.
While we may consider a toilet nothing more than a public convenience, design experts have rounded up the 10 best loos from around the globe to form its powder room power list.
The Wembley WC made it into sixth place on the list, but the top 10 toilet is not actually in the stadium, it is a simple public toilet on a nearby street.
Creative Kiwis: The toilets in the Kumutoto precinct on the waterfront in Wellington, New Zealand, certainly don't look like public conveniences
Loo with a view: A roadside toilet facility by Manthey Kula in Lofoten, Norway, took fourth place in the world toilet awards
Take a seat: The Norwegian entry had a spacious, modern interior as well as a spectacular setting
Design professionals from the website Design Curial sifted through thousands of entries to list loos from China, Japan, Switzerland, Poland, New Zealand and the US in the top 10.
But the number one spot was take by the Centennial Park Amenities in Sydney, Australia, an architectural marvel that manages to blend it perfectly with its natural surroundings.
But while Australia came out on top, Japan was the only country with two entries in the top 10. The oval-shaped Graviculture M toilet took second place, while the Hiroshima Park Restrooms were a sunshine-yellow addition, with a sparkling interior.
Southern sanctuary: The unusual design of the Trail Restroom in Austin, Texas, makes it look more like a sculpture than a toilet
Rounded view: The curved Graviculture M toilet in Miki-City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, took the second spot after Australia
Mellow yellow: One of Japan's two entries in the top 10 is this bright toilet in Hiroshima Park
Sleek interiors: The sparkling Hiroshima toilet can sure score extra points for cleanliness
While some designs opted for wacky colours, other took on a bizarre form.
Perhaps the most unusual entry was from New Zealand, the Kumutoto in Wellington looks like a pair of antennae peering out from the side of a building.
The aim of the Rest Room 'Oscars' list was to celebrate creativity and design in buildings often perceived as dull and dreary, and according to design expert Jamie Mitchell, website Editor of Design Curial, the final list has achieved that aim.
THE TOP 10 BEST-DESIGNED PUBLIC TOILETS
1. Centennial Park Amenities: Sydney, Australia
2. Graviculture M: Miki-city Hyogo prefecture, Japan
3. Kumutoto: Wellington, New Zealand
4. Roadside Reststop Akkarvikodden: Lofoten, Norway

9. JinHua Architecture Park public toilet: Zhejiang Province, China
10. Public Toilet, Gdansk:, Gdansk Poland
Great British bathroom: A public toilet in Wembley, London, was the UK entry into the top 10, but it's not close enough to the stadium to allow you to catch the game at the same time

Number one spot: The Australian public toilet blends in with its natural surroundings as well as being a public convenience for park-goers
Quirky interiors: The Graviculture M, in Japan (L) and Trail Restroom (R) in the US both have industrial-style toilets inside the unusual buildings
Mr Mitchell said: 'If you look at each of these toilets they are all wonderfully designed.
'Hopefully this list will show that even the most boring buildings can be designed in such a creative manner.
'It's also fantastic to see a toilet from United Kingdom appearing on the list which is well geographically spread. Interestingly only one country, Japan,
has two toilets on the list.'
He added: 'However I believe that each year we will see an increasing number of public toilets pushing the boundaries of modern design.'
This top ten is the connoisseur choice - but Mr Mitchell invited the public to submit their own views on the best loos in the world and they will be considered for next year's list.
