The Daily Meal reveals the 101 best hotel restaurants in the world

Paris has beaten the UK to be named the home of the best hotel restaurant in the world.

The three-Michelin-starred Epicure at the five-star Le Bristol won the top honours - only just scooping Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London.

However, the UK did redeem itself by getting two venues in the top 10 of the 101 Best Hotel Restaurants Around The World, with Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir in Oxford securing eighth place.

At the helm of The Daily Meal's number one venue, Epicure, is chef Eric Fréchon, known for his classic dishes, such as the poulet de Bresse en vessie - a chicken with black truffles stuffed under its skin, wrapped in a pig's bladder - and signature blue lobster.

While at number two is Blumenthal's eatery at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London, following the success of The Fat Duck. 

On the menu includes a spiced pigeon with ale and artichokes, roast halibut, and an apple, rose and fennel tart.

French chef, Alain Ducasse, scoops third place in the annual list with his Mediterranean-inspired Le Louis XV at the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo.

In Florence, Il Palagio at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze is ranked at number four - which is a first among Italian hotel restaurants.

Executive Chef Vito Mollica and his team use fresh, locally-sourced ingredients to create authentic Italian cuisine, like his signature Cavatelli pasta with red prawns and marinated baby squids - it was named Dish Of The Year in restaurant guide, Guida Ristoranti Espresso 2013.

Spanish-American chef Jose Andres, often credited for bringing the small plates dining trend to America, makes many an appearance on this list and is the only chef to have two properties listed in the top 10.

The Bazaar by Jose Andres at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills takes the fifth spot, while e by Jose Andres at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas comes in at number nine.

The second American hotel restaurant to be mentioned is Jean Georges' signature restaurant, Jean-Georges at the Trump International Hotel & Tower in New York City, which comes in sixth on the list.

Blue at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, ranks seventh thanks to chef Eric Ripert, known as New York's seafood master.

Of Le Bernadin fame, Ripert creates freshly prepared oceanic fare, with both a la carte and four- and six-course tasting menu options.

Eighth on the list (and second in the UK) is the Oxfordshire Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons Restaurant at Le Manoir in Oxford, where chef Blanc creates dishes described as 'a twist of imaginative genius'.

While Vegas casino restaurants may conjure up images of unlimited buffet crab legs and cheap prime rib dinners, e by Jose Andres at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, which ranks at number nine, is anything but.

The dining room, which is hidden away adjacent to Andres' Jaleo restaurant, has only eight seats and the 15-course tasting menu is prepared in front of you.

Rounding out the top 10 is El Motel Restaurant at Hotel Emporda in Figueres, Spain, a marketplace-to-table concept restaurant where products and offerings change depending on the season.

In making their decisions, The Daily Meal considered winners and nominees from their 2013 list of the best hotel restaurants, consulted the Michelin Guide, and also looked at hotel restaurants from its annual regional 101 Best Restaurants lists. 

The restaurants were then grouped by continent and an experienced panel of bloggers, critics, and food and lifestyle writers were then invited to vote for their favourites in an online survey.

To be considered, the hotel has to have at least 15 rooms and restaurants must be in the same building - and under the same proprietorship - as the hotel.
