Emirates cabin crew reveal top secrets to looking good on long flights

Remaining well-groomed during a flight can present something of a challenge for most of us.
But it is skill that Emirates cabin crew – both men and women – seem to have mastered.
And now the airline's staff have given a glimpse into just how they manage to maintain their glamorous appearance, even after the most gruelling long-haul journeys.
Looking good: The Emirates cabin crew reveal their beauty secrets to looking good on board a flight
The answer apparently lies in a well-executed make-up routine.
When ask what beauty essentials passengers should travel with, they recommended plant-based products, which they say help protect the skin and retain moisture when worn for long periods.
Other tips included wearing Blemish Base and Colour Correction creams and mineral-based make up.
They advise that make-up should be removed with an alcohol-free cleanser while a hydration mask should be worn during the flight to keep skin well hydrated.
They say that lip balm should be used continuously and suggest a 'mini skin care routine' of using exfoliator, moisturiser and eye gel before landing and applying make-up.
Anti-fatigue eye serums, under-eye concealers with light reflectors and tinted moisturiser is another piece of wisdom imparted by the Emirates cabin crew.

When it comes to maintaining hair during long-haul flights, they say that styling products 'are a definite no ', instead recommending hair oil to stop hair drying out and recommend using a wooden brush to prevent static electricity from affecting the hair.
Another way to avoid hair looking static is to rub a drop of water onto the hands and smooth it over the hair – Cabin Crew sometimes use a pea-sized amount of hand cream or lip gloss to smooth down fly aways and control frizz, which works a treat.
They add: 'Dehydration will affect the skin in general, especially the hands, face and cuticles during long haul flights. To combat this, drink lots of water throughout the flight and hydrate as much as possible the days prior to flying by drinking abundant amounts of water, fruit and vegetable juices (especially cucumber).
'Putting body lotion or body oil on clean skin before take-off also really helps, as well as removing any make-up and applying moisturiser to the skin. Avoid waterproof mascara as this will dry out the lashes on-board.'
When it comes to choosing the right diet, Emirates staff are in no doubt which meals are best for long-haul flights.

'Water based foods including fruit and vegetables are the best options for long-haul travel. These types of food will not only maintain hydration and prevent puffiness, but will also provide the added boost of important antioxidants, fibre and other nutrients.
'Although it's tempting to enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine inflight, caffeine and alcohol are both major causes of dehydration so we highly recommend going for a fruit juice instead.
'Processed snacks such as crisps and pretzels should definitely be avoided, as well as cheese and cold-cut meat which contains high amounts of sodium and will cause bloating while on-board.
'Another top tip is to drink copious amounts of water or coconut water to stay hydrated. This seems an obvious one but you would be surprised how many people don't compensate enough for the dehydration caused by long-haul travel. This is especially important if alcohol is being consumed.'

Long flights can also have a negative impact on blood circulation, with staff recommending regular walks through the cabin to minimise the problem.
Men are also given grooming advice by the Emirates cabin crew, with staff recommending the use of shaving oil to keep skin well-moisturised and prevent irritation and dryness.
Male staff also advise using a shaving brush to apply the shaving gel or foam as it acts as a natural exfoliator and helps get rid of ingrown hairs.

Training manager Helen Roxburgh, responsible for Image and Uniform, has previously explained that Emirates cabin crew are taught beauty techniques as part of their training to work on the airline.
Asked how the high-flying Emirates stewardesses stay stylish at 30,000 feet, she said: 'It's recommended that cabin crew follow a skincare routine that helps them deal with the different hours that they work.
'Exfoliation and masks are highly recommended as they help to enhance the appearance of the skin.
'They have to touch up their make-up throughout the flight. Eye gel helps to refresh the eyes during a long flight and can be used over make-up.
'They are the forefront of the airline and the uniform identity is the direct link to our prestigious brand. They are the public face of Emirates and are recognised by our customers and also the customers of other airlines.
'They only have one opportunity to make a good first impression.'
