Vertigo at Tivoli in Copenhagen named Europe's best amusement park ride
comments
This is the dizzying ride that sends thrillseekers for a loop at a top speed of 60mph – and it has been named the best amusement park ride in Europe.
Vertigo puts adrenaline junkies through a stomach-churning experience while they are seated in tiny planes that spin 360 degrees and are flipped upside down by two giant rotating arms.
Daredevil riders can control the tiny planes while they experience 5G, which means the ride accelerates at five times the weight of gravity.
That makes it feel like a rider's body weighs five times its normal weight.
Every year, Vertigo lures hundreds of thousands of visitors to Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens, the second oldest amusement park in the world.
Touted as the park's wildest and fastest ride, Vertigo opened in 2009 and is open to visitors of all ages, although there is a height requirement.
With a height of 40 metres, the giant arms rotate 17 times per minute while riders spin at high speed.
After thrilling visitors for five years, Vertigo has been awarded the European Star Award for 2014 by Kirmes & Park Revue, a trade industry magazine based in Germany.
