Betabrand's Germinator jacket protects travellers from germs for £122

If you're someone who feels the need to roll around in hand sanitiser after a trip on public transport - here's a slightly less extreme alternative.

Betabrand's new germ-fighting transit jacket  - The Germinator - claims to protect commuters from germs as they travel around busy stations, on buses, trains and aeroplanes.

The jacket is made out of breathable, water-resistant softshell fleece and has an extra-high collar made from a silver-fused anti-microbial fabric, which can be zipped up and used as a sort of face mask to protect travellers from airborne germs.

A set of removable cuffs, made from the same material, allows standing train passengers to grip onto rails without picking up germs.

The jacket, which retails at £122, also features vented pockets, so wearers can cool down without needing to remove it.

On the right-hand sleeve there is a dedicated pocket for a travel card that helps keep it hidden yet easy to find, when not in use.

There's even a chest pocket providing easy access to your smartphone.

The outerwear is a collaboration between gravitytank and Betabrand and the result of research into how to help prevent illnesses being shared among train passengers.
