Barcelona cracks down on drunk tourism and booze cruises offering to get tourists s*** faced

It's not just the Balearic islands struggling to cope with drunken holidaymakers.

Barcelona is trying to ban a booze-cruise company that promises tourists it will help them get 'absolutely s*** faced' on board its boats.

But the Catalan authorities have admitted they are not sure their remit covers activities that take place at sea.

The company Booze Cruise Barcelona offers three-hour cruises for just 45 euros, which includes a free bar with unlimited beer, sangria and cava.

Its website claims it is 'Barcelona's ultimate boat party' and shows pictures of apparently inebriated tourists having alcohol sprayed into their mouths using water pistols.

It claims its boat parties are 'the wildest thing to do in Barcelona' and adds: 'Its [sic] a three hour cruise of the med served up with unlimited drinks, wild games and the sickest promo crew in Barcelona to help you get absolutely s*** faced.'

The Barcelona government has referred to the boat trips as nothing more than 'drunken tourism' and called for the practice to come to an end.

The desperate bid to end the drunken tourism comes after Spain announced a bid to clean up the reputation of Mallorcan resorts Magaluf and Palma as well as San Antonio in Ibiza.

The sordid side of Spain's top party resorts came to light after a video was posted online showing an 18-year-old girl performing a sex act on 24 men in return for a free cocktail.

The shocking video prompted questions to be asked of the behaviour of British men and women visiting the Spanish resorts for alcohol-fuelled summer holidays.

While criticism has focused on the company behind the bar crawl that the protagonists in the film attended - Carnage Magalluf - other firms offering 'all you can drink;' events are now being targeted.

Booze Cruise Barcelona gives away free bracelets and vests stating 'I survived Barcelona' for all those who take part in the event.

The Barcelona government has already banned booze-fuelled bar crawls around the city, but admits it wants to be sure of the legality of tackling alcohol-based boat trips as it does not have control over the city's waters.

However a spokesperson confirmed that distributing flyers advertising unlimited beer and sangria is not allowed in Catalunya and has not been for five years.
