The Wirld Irishmen have river danced around the world

Three foot-stomping lads from Dublin and Kildare have Irish jigged around the world.

Iain McNamara, Chris McGrath and Kevin Cobbe, all 26, wanted to share their passion for all things Irish, so they hopped on a plane and high-kicked their way through 22 countries over the course of a year.

The trio, who go by the collective name of The Wirld, began their journey in May 2013, armed with a world ticket, 'a limited budget and a dodgy all weather camera'.

The boys danced all over the world, spending time in Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, as well as New Zealand Malaysia, Cambodia and Myanmar.

They visited schools, universities, businesses and people's homes with the aim of spreading the word of Ireland in their own unique way.

The trip wasn't all plain-sailing, Iain told Mail Online Travel: 'The biggest problem we seemed to encounter while recording was ensuring that no one ran off with the camera. We had a few close calls.

'Also in one scene in Paraguay, Kev had picked up a sprained ankle so had to hop around for the scene. He danced through the pain barrier!'

But their moves proved popular with most onlookers, albeit rather confusing.

'Apart from Australia, New Zealand and the UK most people were generally confused but very supportive and we had a few round of applause,' said Iain.

'Most people looked on in confusion but in one scene in Argentina you can see a local guy running up in the background for a dance. Maybe he was a Michael Flatley fan!'

'The young people we met particularly in South America and Asia are now sharing this video with their friends and it has created interest about Ireland among a demographic that previously may not have known much about the Emerald Isle.'

On their blog, the boys explain: 'Created in 2013, The Wirld is an organization formed by three Irish men with the objective of promoting our small nation abroad. But we are a little different...

'Unlike government agencies, our target market is not just businesses abroad, but the leaders of tomorrow. We hope that some unadulterated fun and mischief can do what these agencies are unable to. We want to Instil Irishness across the world.'

'We all know that Ireland has had a tough time over the past few years. Having lived the high life for too long, we were sent crashing to earth and pride has been a tough thing to find.

'We've crumbled in sports, Westlife have broken up and not even Jedward can qualify for the Eurovision anymore.

'Our image and reputation abroad have been tarnished by the greedy. But all is not lost. We are slowly getting back on our feet after a tough night at Coppers.

'Step by step we are getting there. But in order to restore our reputation, responsibility falls on every one of our citizens'

'One of our greatest descendants once said: 'Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country'.
