There is witnessing the Northern Lights, and then there is seeing the incredible aurora whilst upside down scaling a moonlit glacier! 

Mike Stuart and Takeshi Tani set out to climb the Canadian Athabasca Glacier in Alberta, when their ice walls were illuminated by the breathtaking natural light show. 

Night-time photographer Paul Zizka, who captured the pair, said photographing the pair clinging to the frozen glacier with the incredible backdrop was one of the highlights of his career so far.

Best place for a view! Paul, 35, from Banff in Alberta, revealed the stillness of the climbers and movement of the lights made for one of the best photography experiences of his life

The photographer, who specialises in snapping auroras in Canada's most picturesque parks, said what made the pictures incredible was the stillness of the subjects contrasting with the movement of the lights. 

Zizka, 35, from Banff in Alberta is no stranger to the show in Jasper Nation Park, and has even taking a couple of unbeatable selfies with the Northern Lights there previously.

Hanging around! The Northern Lights can often be caught in Jasper National Park - where the glacier sits, and Paul has taken the off selfies with the incredible natural light show!

Incredible surprise! The trio had planned the shoot hoping for clear skies so they could capture the stars. When the Northern Lights started to dance they were delighted

He said: 'As if the wild playground wasn't enough, the Aurora Borealis came out in full force, adding a surreal effect to the scene.

'This photo shoot ended up in the top five of my photography career, especially because of how all the elements came together that night.

'I had planned the shoot wanting only clear skies so that we could capture the stars, and when the Northern Lights started to dance I was thrilled.

'It was well worth a long night out and climbing into bed at 4am.'
