St Martin holidaymaker films moment plane passes above heads of tourists

It is not quite what you expect to see when you're at the beach.

But tourists on the Caribbean of St Martin decided the picture of a plane flying low over the sands was a holiday snap worth taking, gathering in a group to capture the dramatic footage.

As holidaymakers stand in their swimsuits, cameras at the ready, the huge jet comes into land and is so close it seems to almost brush the heads of the spectators.

Identified by one of the group as a Boeing 727 cargo plane, the aircraft thunders overhead at high speed, the beach-goers whoop and cheer.

However, at the moment it is overhead, some wary holidaymakers can be seen ducking.

The unbelievable close call happens surprisingly often on St Martin, where the island's airport is located right next to the beach.

The latest video, uploaded to YouTube just days ago by a holidaymaker.

The plane is coming in to land on the Dutch part of the Caribbean island at Princess Juliana International Airport.

The airport, while being the second-busiest airport in the Eastern Caribbean, has a runway of just 7,152 feet in length - and it is located right next to Maho beach.

While some holidaymakers like to stand and snap the planes flying overhead, thrillseekers have also been known to hold on to the fence of the airport when a jet is getting ready to take off so they are blasted when the engine kick in, lifting them off the ground.

The dangerous activity can cause serious injury if holidaymakers are unable to keep hold of the fence and are flung to the ground by the force of the engines.
