World's cheapest airline flies again! People Express takes to the skies

It was famed as one of the first budget carriers in the world, the 1980s airline that sold discount tickets but still believed in having cheery staff.
And now People Express is set to take to the skies again, using the retro name to appeal to those who are nostalgic for the old brand.
The US-based airline first launched in 1981 and was the first in the world to charge fees for checking in bags, as well as offering meal-free flights and putting snacks and drinks on sale.
Glorified bus service: Back in the Eighties, People Express took phone bookings and then accepted on-board payments
It even took payment from passengers in-flight - working as a glorified bus service.
At the height of its popularity, globetrotter could travel from New York to London on a flight that cost just $149 (£89) one way.
The airline also offered staff stocks so that they were invested in the company and offered better customer service.
But, despite the zeal of the People Express staff, the airline became jokingly referred to as People Distress after over-expansion saw it struggle with financial difficulties and it was eventually sold to Continental Airlines in 1987.
Now the airline is back, promising a return to 'the joy of flying' with similarly bargain-basement prices.
Based in Newport New, Virginia, the airline plans to run national flights, covering routes that are underserviced by other airlines.
Glory days: People Express was known as one of the world's first budget airlines - but still had cheery customer service
The first flights, costing from $76 (£45) will take off on June 30, travelling to New York's Newark Airport as well as Boston and Pittsburgh, before expanding into Florida and New Orleans.
But there is no talk of discount transatlantic flights this time around.
Announcing the launch, the airline wrote on its blog: 'With the advent of no-frills pricing, flying became more affordable. Unfortunately, something was lost in the process. The joy of flying.'
It explained: 'We're not OK with that. You shouldn't be either. You should demand better. Low fares and better treatment.
'We're going to treat you like we actually want your business. Because we do. And not just for the low fares, either. You'll see.
'It's time to fly smart. Again.'
On it's website, the airline explains: 'In 1981, a group of entrepreneurially-minded and innovative aviation professionals set out to change the world of air travel.
'People Express came to epitomize airline deregulation and was the paradigm shift that left an indelible mark on aviation history.'
