They are two of the most famous cities in the world and beloved by travellers looking for a weekend break - but which one has the best attractions to lure travellers, London or New York?

A new infographic has the answer - London counts the highest number of 'top 50' bars but when it comes to dining New York is king with 62 Michelin star restaurants against London's 55.

And tourists wondering where Meg Ryan filmed the iconic scene in When Harry Met Sally or which bars Sex and the City characters used to go to, can find their answers here as the graphic compares the cities from a fictional point of view too.

While Meg Ryan had her orgasmic meal at Katz's Delicatessen, Sherlock Holmes first met Watson at the Criterion in Piccadilly, London.

And while New York wins when it comes to shopping - spending £5,867 ($9.752) per year, compared to Londoners spending £5,345 ($8,881), the British comes out on top for culture.

London boasts 173 museums and 857 art galleries, compared to New York's 131 museums and 721 art galleries, according to the infographic compiled by Fairmont Hotels.

But when it comes to theatres, the West End loses out to Broadway, New York beats London with 420 versus 214.

But tourists looking for live music will be happier in London, where there are 349 venues compared to just 227 in New York.
