And travellers had better not be too jet-lagged as they are expected to drive between the two Australian cities, a distance of 598 miles and a journey that will take around nine hours. Car hire is included in the holiday price.

The Sydney to Melbourne package departs from London Heathrow on Friday afternoon, arriving in Sydney on Saturday evening.

Holidaymakers can forget the beach. They'll have just one evening to try and see all the sights of the city, from the Opera House to the Harbour Bridge and Sydney Tower.

There isn't much time to recover. The next morning, travellers are expected to jump in the car and take the coastal route to Melbourne.

If they leave at 10am and make good time, they will arrive at about 7pm and have one night to tour what is known as Australia's most cosmopolitan city.

On the Monday there will be a short amount of the time in the morning to experience Melbourne's famous coffee culture before dashing straight back to the airport for the 24-hour journey back home.

The company claims that by arriving back in the UK at 6.40am on Tuesday, there is still time to go in to work that day.

It also believes that by doing such a short trip, the chances of suffering from jetlag could be reduced, as there is almost no chance to adjust to the new time

Austravel's Naomi Moreno-Melgar said: 'Travelling to Australia for the bank holiday weekend may seem a little extreme, but is in fact do-able. The unique package flies into Sydney and departs from Melbourne allowing hardcore holidaygoers to visit  two wonderful Australian cities in just a matter of days.

'This first of its kind holiday package highlights that a trip to the land Down Under does not need take up all of your holiday allowance, but with four time zones, three million square miles and 22 million people, it would be nice!'
