Coffee fanatic aims to go to every branch of Starbucks in the world

There seems to be a Starbucks on every corner, so this coffee fanatic could have his work cut out if he wants to visit all the branches in the world.

The globetrotter, who calls himself 'Winter' after legally changing his name, has already visited 11,676 of the popular American coffee shops around the world.

But he still needs a caffeine fix in another 10,000 if he is to complete his task.

The computer programmer, from Houston, Texas, first fell in love with Starbucks coffee in 1997 and decided to visit all the branches in the world.

But in the following years, the Starbucks chain has grown at such a rate, the task has become rather more daunting than the initial 1,500 Winter first planned on visiting.

He said: 'It was a completely random idea that came to me while I was in Plano, Texas while discussing the growth of Starbucks in the greater Dallas area.

'I've spent around £100,000 on visiting the stores around the world so far.

'I do not expect to ever complete the project, as I have every reason to think that Starbucks will outlive me.

'But as long as there are new stores to visit, I will try to visit them.

'Many of them have closed down before I've had a chance to visit them but at the same time many new stores have opened.

'I've been able to see a lot of world while travelling too.'

Winter has taken in stores across 38 different countries during his odyssey, including shops in London, New York and Paris.

The caffeine addict, who once guzzled 29 cups of coffee in a single day, only includes branches where he has actually had a cup of coffee.

He added: 'My main rule is that I must drink at least a sample of a caffeinated coffee beverage from each store, otherwise I refuse to tick it off my list.

'My favourite store has to be the one on Duddell Street in Hong Kong.

'The store follows the "bing sutt" (ice house) concept of old, and displays old photos of both the building and adjacent Ice House Street as well as tributes to the Pike Place store.

'I cannot even begin to list all of the cool decorations and memorabilia in the store - you'll just have to save up and visit Hong Kong when you can.'
